How I Spent My Summer Vacation: Oh Look…A Brewery

Iron Horse Brewery: A Review

The ant is knowing and wise, but he doesn’t know enough to take a vacation. ~ Clarence Day

I have heard it said that summer vacations, or any vacation for that matter, take a little planning to do it up right. At least that is what people “in the know” recommend. Plan, review, and then plan some more. I am one of the few that disregard that sage bit of advice. When I go on vacation I have a general idea of what the plan is, but I like to leave the details a bit fuzzy. I don’t need to know what I will be doing every moment of my vacation.  I want to leave a little room for the unexpected surprise that comes along. Spontaneity is best served up warm.

Iron Horse Brewery: A Review So when our friends Steve and Janet Noyes wondered if we might like to go to Iron Horse Brewery, one of their favorite breweries in Ellensburg, Tim and I jumped at the chance. No plans were too important to miss the chance for a beer! So off we went and we were happy we did.

Iron Horse Brewery

The Iron Horse Brewery is located smack dab in the middle of Ellensburg, Washington and only a few short blocks from the Downtown Farmer’s Market. Here they serve their own locally crafted beer and offer occasional entertainment all in a casual atmosphere that can’t be beat.

Iron Horse Brewery: A Review

I am no beer connoisseur but I know what I like and we had lots of choices to keep us happy. I decided quickly that I wanted to try the sampler so I could taste of a little of everything. 6 generous 8 oz pours were included in the tasting, at an incredibly low price too, I might add. The beer served in the sampler can change from day to day depending on what is available. I was served the Light Rail, High Five Hef, Gary, Decision Maker, Iron Horse IPA, and Irish Death. With 48 ounces of beer staring me in the face, I knew I had to call in reinforcements. Tim and our friends Steve and Janet were ready, willing and happy to offer their assistance.

Iron Horse Brewery: A Review

We all had our favorites. I was partial to the creamy Guinness-like taste and creamy smoothness of Irish Death while Tim preferred the wheat, honey and ginger flavor of the High Five Hef. I discovered that I am not a big fan of IPA’s. I’m told the Iron Horse IPA and Decision Maker are just as they should be: decisive, hop-forward, and a malt-balanced pale ale,  but be that as it may, I am okay letting someone else enjoy them.

All in all this was a great spontaneous deviation to our loosely planned vacation. Great friends and a few finely crafted beers. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

I know the SAD feeling when your vacation is winding down. Why can’t we relax and enjoy life everyday? Stress! Stress! Deadlines! Kids! Maybe, when we get all our kids headed in the direction God has planned for them. Life is so short an I realize it everyday, but especially this week. My father-in-law is 69 and diagnosed with bone cancer this week. He starts chemo Monday and has to have a Bone Marrow Transplant. It has got my husband and I thinking about what we really want to do in life.

Blessings and thanks so much for sharing!

Diane I am so sorry to hear of your father-in-law. It seems like you have had one thing after another this year. My heart hurts for you. I will be keeping you and your family in my prayers. Times like these do get us thinking about the important things in life.
Thank you for stopping by and sharing. I will be home soon and we can talk more.

I , too, cannot plan every single part of my trip or vacation out. I do try to have an idea, but I hate planning every last detail and do also like some spontaneity when on vacation. Loved that you got to try this brewery out and looked like a ton of fun, too :)
